Thanks for coming and spending your weekend hanging out with other WordPress users\/developers.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday opened up with a very special keynote presented by Kyle Maurer of <a href=\"http:\/\/sandhillsdev.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sandhills Development<\/a> reminding us all that WordPress isn&#8217;t about the software. WordPress is about the community. We come together to <strong>collaborate and help each other out<\/strong>, contribute endless hours to the <strong>open source project<\/strong>, and gather around on a weekend to ask great questions and spend our free time <strong>bettering ourselves and our craft<\/strong>.\u00a0The soft skills you develop and the connections you make during a WordCamp or at a Meetup can be easily applied to another software, another CMS, another organization.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cIt\u2019s not about software&#8230;it was never about software. It\u2019s about people.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrKyleMaurer?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MrKyleMaurer<\/a> had some awesome (and inspiring!) opening remarks at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WCKent2018?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WCKent2018<\/a>. Can\u2019t wait to get more involved with this community over the next couple of days! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WordCampKent?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WordCampKent<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chloe Clark (@cclarkcreative) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cclarkcreative\/status\/1005459971453194241?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 9, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The sessions on Day One focused on running a freelance business, marketing your business, and ways to become a better developer. Adam Warner taught us how to <a href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/making-security-make-sense-to-users-clients\/\">convince clients that website security matters<\/a>.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Dustin Hartzler shed new light on<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/woocommerce-101\/\">WooCommerce<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">for those looking to start or run a low-maintenance online business.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Attendees new to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">WordPress got <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/gutenberg-what-it-is-and-what-you-need-to-know-about-it\/\">a sneak peak at the Gutenberg project<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"> with Jessica Gardner. First-time speaker Megan Borling <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/death-to-cold-calling-a-guide-to-consistently-booking-clients-even-if-you-hate-selling\/\">sold us on selling ourselves<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">. Lee Drozak and Alex D Riddle shared <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/rapid-wordpress-design-building-sites-in-hours-not-weeks\/\">time-saving tips<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"> for <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/six-step-processes-to-keep-your-project-on-track\/\">freelancers and business owners<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">. Steve Grunwell, Amit Rathi, and Eric Malcolm rounded out the development track with practical knowledge on <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/testing-like-youve-never-tested-before-because-you-havent\/\">testing<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">, <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/greener-pastures-infrastructure-from-the-ground-up\/\">career transitions<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">, <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/how-to-add-react-to-a-wordpress-theme-or-plugin\/\">React<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">, <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/beaver-builder-building-a-site-custom-modules\/\">Beaver Builder<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">, and <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem\" href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/creating-a-turnkey-concierge-website-platform\/\">WordPress Multisite<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Our WordCamp featured some especially great talks focused on SEO including talks from\u00a0Corey Hammond of A2 Hosting,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.polepositionmarketing.com\/about-us\/pit-crew\/stoney-degeyter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">author and digital marketer<\/a> Stoney deGeyter, local SEO expert Josh Gellock of <a href=\"https:\/\/expanderdigital.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Expander Digital<\/a>, event marketer and mastermind behind\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nachoritafest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NachoRitaFest<\/a> Sandro Galindo, and marketing strategist John Centofanti.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cIf you don\u2019t know what to do, go with Google My Business.\u201d &#8211; Josh Gellock talking about Local SEO <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WordCampKent2018?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WordCampKent2018<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1094\" src=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/files\/2018\/07\/DfVtWZMX4AI1crx-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Josh Gellock of Expander Digital Talking About Local SEO\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 WordCamp Kent (@WordCampKent) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WordCampKent\/status\/1005830342740271104?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 10, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We enjoyed an After Party at Kent Lanes Saturday night where speakers, sponsors, attendees, organizers, and volunteers could unwind after a long day of learning.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, the bar was set quite high for Day Two! Sunday&#8217;s schedule highlighted the community\/getting involved, business and marketing tips, and a WordPress 101 track covering everything from the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org to beginner developer topics!<\/p>\n<p>Our community track tackled a variety of subjects like <a href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/open-sourcing-mental-illness\/\">mental health in the tech industry<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/are-you-and-your-business-prepared-for-a-health-emergency\/\">preparing your business for a health emergency<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/using-your-wordpress-powers-for-good\/\">using your skills to help others in the WordPress community<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/2018.kent.wordcamp.org\/session\/cleveland-givecamp\/\">giving back to the community through Cleveland GiveCamp<\/a>. Pappy Oyler shared his personal experience about suffering a heart attack and the impact it had on his business. Michelle Ames opened our eyes to all the ways to get involved in the WordPress community and help others through running unique Meetup formats, speaking at WordCamp, and volunteering. We were very happy to welcome into our community Matt Trask of <a href=\"https:\/\/osmihelp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open Sourcing Mental Illness<\/a> as well as Jonathan Knapp of <a href=\"http:\/\/clevelandgivecamp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cleveland GiveCamp<\/a>. We are fortunate to have such a passionate member of our community. &#8211; His wife and daughters even volunteered!<\/p>\n<p>Sunday also featured speakers Adam Silver of <a href=\"https:\/\/conciergewp.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ConciergeWP<\/a>, visual creative and active philanthropist Leif Fairfield, and Udemy instructor Bruce Chamoff!<\/p>\n<p>It was so great to meet and get to know everyone! Especially at our Networking Lunch we had on Sunday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">My favorite part about <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WordCamp?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WordCamp<\/a> is the people. I met some incredible, passionate, individuals this year.
